Observation Focused on the Learning Environment
Evaluate a lesson taught by your cooperating teacher. Answer the following questions related to the teacher, students and the lesson taught.
1. When a student answered a question correctly or asked a good question, did the teacher encourage the student with words such as, “fine”, “good”, “and excellent”? List the types of comments made by the teacher.
2. What nonverbal cues (a smile or nod of head) did the teacher use to encourage the students?
3. When a student gave an answer that was only partially correct, did the teacher give credit for the correct part?
4. Did the teacher ever refer to the positive aspects of the student’s previous response?
5. List other types of reinforcement (material, privileges, and tokens, social) you or the teacher used this week.
